Article by Marc Aupiais

In what has been interestingly labeled as "not a private audience" (quote: "BBC World News" (Secular; British; Governmental) 28 / 05 (May) / 2009)) by "Vatican officials"(ibid), but rather, as a "mark of ["Pope" "Benedict XVI's"] respect for Baroness Thatcher" (ibid) , by the unnamed "Vatican officials" (ibid), quoted by the "BBC": "His Holiness" "Pope" "Benedict XVI", has had a short conversation with "Great Britain's" ex-"Prime Minister", the famous, and infamous "Baroness" "Margaret Thatcher" (83- "Eighty-Three" years old).

The planned conversation with the ex-"Prime Minister" of "Great Britain", occurred shortly after the "Pope" had given a regular a "Public Audience", to the general public.

Despite the seemingly relaxed atmosphere, the meeting was planned, and requested in advance, by "Thatcher's" friend "Carla Powell" ("Catholic Culture" (Catholic; Independent; American) 22 / 05 (May) / 2009 ; "Telegraph" (British; Secular; Independent) 22/ 05 (May) / 2009), though not by "Thatcher" herself.

"Catholic Culture" ("Catholic Culture" (Catholic; Independent; American) 27 / 05 (May) / 2009), notes that "Margaret Thatcher", was not only accompanied by "Paul Johnson", whom the "BBC" notes as a "Catholic writer and historian"(28 / 05 (May) / 2009) , and "Catholic Culture" calls "noted" (quote), but was further accompanied by her "biographer" (also "Catholic") : "Charles Moore".

Third Visit

"Margaret Thatcher" is currently, an "Anglican", according to "National Catholic Register", although the "BBC" (which seems more credible here, especially given "Thatcher's" history), noted that she was raised a "Methodist", and other sources claim she is currently "Methodist". It is the third recorded visit to the "Holy See"/"Vatican", of the woman who was "Great Britain's" "Prime Minister", from "1979" to "1990" ("National Catholic Register"), and it seems to have gone off well.

"Margaret Thatcher" and the "Holy See"/"Vatican", a history:

Having met: the Late "Pope Paul VI" (as leader of the "Opposition" (quote)), and the Late "Pope John Paul II" ("November" (quote) of "1980" (quote) - to put pressure on "Irish Republicans" (quote) on a hunger strike) (above quotes in this paragraph: according to "Telegraph" (British; Secular; Independent) 22/ 05 (May) / 2009), this seems to be her first non-political visit to the "Roman Catholic" "Pontiff", who is now "John Paul II's" successor: "Pope" "Benedict XVI".

Current "British" "Prime Minister": "Gordon Brown", also visited "Pope Benedict XVI", in "February" this year, and has invited the "pontiff", to visit the "United Kingdom".

"Lady" "Margaret Thatcher's" company at the event:

More about "noted" (quote of article by"Catholic Culture") "historian", and "Journalist" "Paul Johnson"

In an article which has been reproduced online ("Catholic Education" (Catholic; Independent; American) which includes: an article from "The Wall Street Journal" (Secular; American; Independent) 17 / 06 (June) / 2005 ), "Paul Johnson", wrote for "The Wall Street Journal", in an article entitled: "What Europe Really Needs." (June 17, 2005), that

"as an entity [Europe] is sick and [that] the European Union as an institution [in his view:] is in disorder [this, he says,]cannot be denied." (ibid)

"Catholic Education" notes that "Paul Johnson" has written for: "New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Spectator, and the Daily Telegraph" (ibid). The "Catholic League", meanwhile indirectly notes "Margaret Thatcher's" companion ("Paul Johnson"), as a "bestselling author" (paraphrase of: "Catholic League for Civil and Religious Rights" (Catholic; Independent; American) 29 / 05 (May) / 2009 ).

"Charles Moore": "editor", "columnist", "Catholic"

"Charles Moore" was once the editor the "Britain's" "Telegraph" newspaper, and according to a resource linked to by "Catholic Culture", is a "Catholic". He seemingly is satirically bemused, by "Catholic" "Convert", and "ex-Prime Minister", "Tony Blair's" attitude to "Catholicism", having publicly mocked ("Telegraph" (British; Secular; Independent) 10 / 04 (April) / 2009) the former "Prime Minister" ("Blair), in the public domain, when "Blair" suggested that the "Catholic Church", must change to accommodate "Blair's" ideas: such as that "Homosexuality" is "Good", and that central leadership ain't that nice (to paraphrase a previous situation, and "Blair's" comments to a "Gay" magazine). The "Disordered[ness]" of "Homosexuality", and the requirement for the Central leadership of the "Church" by the "papacy", are both defined "Catholic" "Dogmas".

"Charles Moore", "Thatcher's" "biographer", as an editor:

"Moore" has previously edited: "The Daily Telegraph, The Sunday Telegraph and The Spectator", according to the "Telegraph" website ("Telegraph" (British; Secular; Independent): on "Charles Moore __/__/__ ), but now writes "editorials", having retired from the post of "editor".

Context of the Trip, and "Thatcher's" "audience" with the "Pope"

The "Telegraph" reports, that "Margaret Thatcher", visited the "Pope", on the way to stay with her friend "Lady" "Carla Powell" ( "Telegraph" (British; Secular; Independent) 22/ 05 (May) / 2009). "Lady" "Carla Powell's" husband "Charles Powell", it reports, was "Thatcher's" advisor on "foreign policy"(ibid) when "Thatcher" occupied "Number 10" "Downing Street", as "British Prime Minister".

While other services, are attempting to analyze this visit, it might be noted, that the meeting/audience with "Pope" "Benedict XVI", by "Lady" "Margaret Thatcher", was arranged, not as though directly by "Thatcher", which would give more room to speculate, but rather, by a friend of "Thatcher", with no reference as to any personal request by "Thatcher" for the visit, that this service has come across.

Without analyzing their statement further, the  "Telegraph" ((British; Secular; Independent) 22/ 05 (May) / 2009), noted that the meeting, which took place on "Wednesday" (ibid), as planned: was in fact, arranged by "Lady" "Carla Powell", whom "Thatcher" is staying with in "Rome", "Italy". The "Vatican State", is an entire country, inside of "Italy", by the city of "Rome", and is very nearby where "Carla Powell" stays.
